Contemporary Abstract Art
“Abstract” means, literally, to remove or pull away from concrete reality. In art, it is an expression of the soul rather than a representation of the body. The artist wants you to see her “Abstract” paintings with your heart, discovering the unique beauty that sometimes has a touch of realism, a pleasant surprise to the eye. Not just the shapes, or lack of, but the colors and movement. Donna shares in her blogs about the experience some have when viewing her work.
We are told by some that Realism is the exact representation of what we see in the natural world. But that is not a hard and fast rule. If the artist is to be true their creative nature then what we see in the natural goes through an interpretive process as we paint. I have done some true to life realism but I feel some loss of my “creative”. Most of the “Realism” you will see here is softened by what I see beyond the “real” that adds something ethereal. Portraits may be the only exception.
Realism with a Bit of Whimsical & Collage
Donna loves to bring people to places in their hearts that leave them feeling as though they’d been on an imagination adventure. It’s what she experiences in her heart’s eye — bringing it to life in her art to share with others. Adding a word, or poem creates a rich visual enhanced with mixed media.
Donna’ uses mixed media (Acrylic, Ink Pens, Colored Pencil). Each Collage Portrait is custom made which makes them a “very special” gift. The portrait tells a story about the person in the specific time frame of their life. It’s a “one page” book of life at a specific time and age.
