About the Artist
BioTexas native, Donna K. Compton, has been a professional artist for over thirty years. Originally an acrylic artist, she has since worked in several different mediums: Acrylic, Oil, Watercolor, Colored Pencil and pen and ink. Donna began painting and taught classes in Americana Folk Art, and painted murals on a variety of surfaces including a building (Old Downtown Carrollton’s Theatre building). In the last four years Donna has focused primarily on modern abstract acrylic paintings, semi-abstract acrylic paintings, mixed media collage, and colored pencil art using canvas, various papers and some wood as her surface. She owes much of what she produces artistically today to a North Carolina artist, Pattie Ann Hale, who encouraged her to approach the canvas from a place of inspiration, both external and internal.
Artist Statement
For Donna, art tells a story that is in the heart of the beholder. She enjoys hearing what others see and feel when they contemplate one of her creations. For her - art is an open door to creating something she could call her own and love every moment of it.
